Full Hajj Package

In the name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. The month of Dhul-Hajj
is packaged with lots of bounties(Blessings), especially it's first ten days. These are special days a Muslim is supposed to submit himself in totality to his creator.
Before one set to go for Hajj, he should have met some requirements such as:
  • Sincerity: Total submission to the will of Allaah and he should avoid RIYA (Show off)
  • His words and action should match with the teachings of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W)
Hajj is classified into three
  • Tammattu'i
  • Ifraad
  • Qiraan

Tammattu'i: Is Being in the state of Ihraam for Umrah during the months of Hajj (ie. Shawwal, Dhul-Qi'dah and Dhul-Hijjah).
When a pilgrim arrives at the Holy land of Makkah, he performs Tawaaf and Sa'i for Umrah and shaves his head or cuts his hair and exit Ihraam. When it's the day of Al- Tarwiyah, which is the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah, he enters Ihraam for Hajj only, and performs all the actions for Hajj.
So literally, Tamattu'i is a complete Umrah and a complete Hajj.

Ifraad: Is being in the state of Ihraam for Hajj only. When a pilgrim arrives at the holy land of Makkah, he performs Tawaaf Al-Qudoom(Tawaaf of arrival) and Saa'i for Hajj, but he does not exit Ihraam, until after stonning Jamarat Al-Aqabah on the day of Eid. (He could also delay his Saa'i of Hajj until after Tawaaf of Hajj as this is also permissible).

Qiraan: Which is being in the state of Ihraam for Umrah and Hajj together. His Tawaaf and Saa'i are both intended for Hajj and Umrah.
Pilgrims doing Qiraan do offer a sacrifice(Hadiy) while the Ifraad pilgrims don't.

The best of the three Hajj is Tammatu'i. This was what the prophet(S.A.W) urged the Ummah to do.

A pilgrim should observe  the following:
  • Ghusl (Narrated by Muslim, 1259)
  • Applying Perfume
  • Praying
Then he should enter Ihraam after he finishes his prayer or after boarding a means of transportation.

For those doing Tammattu'i they should say
  • "Labbayka Allahumma bi Umrah" "(Here I am, O Allaah, for Umrah)".
If he is doing Qiraan, he should say
  • "Labbayk Allahumma bi Hijjah wa Umrah" "(Here I am, O Allaah, for Hajj and Umrah)".
For those doing Ifraad they should say
  • "Labbayk Allahumma Hijjan" "(Here I am, O Allaah, for Hajj)".
They should say the Talbiyah as The Prophet Did:
  • "Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk, LAbbayka Laa Shareeka Laka Labbayk. Innal Hamd wa'l Ni'mata Laka wal Mulk, Laa shareeka Lak" "(Here I am, O Allaah here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, Here I am. Verily all praise and blessings are yours and all sovereignty, You have no Partner)"
When a pilgrim enters al-Masjid al-Haraam, he should do so with his right foot first and say.
  • "Bismillaah wal-salaatu wal "salaam ala Rasul- Allaah. Allahumma Ighfir li Dhunoobi waftah li abwab Rahmatika. A'udhu Billaahil Azeem wa bi wajhihil Kareem wa bi Sultanihil Rajeem. "(In the name of Allaah, and blessings and peace be upon the messenger of Allaah. O Allaah, forgive me my sins and open to me the gates of your mercy. I seek refuge with Allaah the Almighty and in his noble countenance and his eternal power from the accursed Satan)"
Then He should go to the Black Stone to start Tawaaf. Tawaf is followed by two Raka'ahs He should then proceed to Mas'a (place for doing Sa'i) and perform Sa'i between al-Safa and al-Marwah.

After seven circuits of Sa'i the pilgrim should shave his head. Rasool (S.A.W) made Du'a three times for those who shave their head and once for those who cut their hair. (Narrated by Muslim, 1303)
Women should cut the length of a fingertip from their hair.

On the day of al-Tarwiyah,(ie. 8th of Dhul-Hijjah), the one doing tamattu'i should enter Ihraam for Hajj in the morning from Makkah.

At Mina
Pilgrims should proceed to Mina where they would perform Salatul Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha'i and Fajr. Which is shortened to two raka'at (Zuhr, Asr, Isha'i). Rasool (S.A.W) used to shorten his prayers in Mina, but he did not join them.

Moving to Arafah
Pilgrims travel from Mina to Arafah and stop at Namirah, until it is time for Zuhr and it is been combined with Asr Prayer (Two Raka'at Each)
The Prophet(S.A.W) used to recite the following Du'a. "Laa ilaha ill Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, Lahul- mulk wa lahul- hamd, wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadeer." (There is no god but Allaah alone, with no partner or associate, He is the Dominion, all praises are due to Him, and He is able to do all things)"

Heading to Muzdalifah
Pilgrims move to Muzdalifah before magrib, on reaching Muzdalifah, pilgrims should pray Magrib and Isha'i. Pilgrims sleep over at Muzdalifah and at dawn they pray Fajr and head to al-Mash'ar al-Haraam to proclaim the Ones and greatness of Allaah by saying: "Laa ilaaha ill Allaah. And making several du'a as he wishes.(Best Advised to face Qibla with hands raised.)

Back to Mina
Pilgrims moves to Mina via Wadi Mahsar(A valley between Muzdalifah and Mina). Throw Seven Pebbels at Jamarat Al-Aqbah and saying "Allahu Akbar" at each throw. After which he slaughters an animal for sacrifice. Pilgrim then move back to Makkah and perform Tawaaf and Sa'i for Hajj.
Aisha(RA) was reported to have said: The prophet(SAW) said "I used to apply perfume to the prophet(Pbuh) before he entered Ihraam and when he exits Ihraam, before he circumbulated the house(Narrated by al-Bukhari, 1539; Muslim 1189). After tawaf and Sa'i, pilgrim returns to Mina and spend two nights which are 11th and 12th of Dhul-Hijjah.

Pilgrims shouldn't leave without performing a farewell Tawaaf (Tawaaf al-wada'a). The prophet (pbuh) said "No one should leave until the last thing he does is (tawaaf) around the house". (Narated by Muslim 1327)

Women who are menstruating or due to child birth do not have to do farewell Tawaaf.

May Allaah have Mercy On Us.
May Allaah grant Us Understanding.
